Waiver Policy

Chitkara University Publications Journals follow a Diamond Open Access (DOA) policy. In this model of scholarly publishing, research gets disseminated without any charges, neither for the reader nor for the author; thus, the paywalls and Article Processing Charges (APCs) are eliminated. Chitkara University provides all the expenses for the publications of the CUP journals. The model is a community-driven, non-profit model that is usually backed by academic institutions, libraries, or scholarly societies and provides a fair, sustainable, and accessible alternative to traditional publishing.

Diamond Open Access (DOA) is a good example of a fair model of scholarly publishing that is based on shared infrastructures and open licensing. It is a source of knowledge as a digital public good, which is free to both readers and authors.

This approach relies on shared infrastructures and open licensing, thus meaning the circulation of scholarly knowledge as a digital public good. It is embedded in the framework of the Open Solutions concept promoted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which promotes the concept of digital public goods that are shared under open licenses and are supported by appropriate policies, infrastructure, and capacity building. UNESCO is an active proponent of Diamond Open Access in accordance with the 2021 Recommendation of the Organization on Open Science. This initiative also adds to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the UN Pact for the Future, and the UN Global Digital Compact.
